Fanfiction Rewriting - A Commentary

You know my favorite part right now about going back and taking another stab at my Kingdom Hearts fanfiction, which barring maybe 3 chapters was a complete literary disaster?

I've learned SO MUCH since then.

I mean, really. For one thing, if I were to write this back then, I would have already been finished with the first chapter. I mean, yes, the version that I wrote was just fine before I typed it all out, but even just in typing it it got better. And now, I backtracked when I started typing out chapter two because I went "Wait. wait wait hold up wait wait woah. I'm not done with the first chapter. What am I doing typing this out?" and went back.

You know another thing that led to the downfall of this fanfiction the first time?
One world per chapter.
I mean, that was really the down fall. I squeezed entire world plots (or was planning to squeeze plots) that could have, in hindsight been much better expressed with the world spread over 2 or 3 chapters. I'm on my second chapter, and you know what? They still haven't left earth. Hell, I'm not entirely sure that they will in this chapter. If I find a good place to break it in half again then I will and I won't be scared of doing it.

Also, as far as improvement goes:

I actually did a little drafty-outline.

How many times did I do that before?
NONE.
I had a basic idea in my head of where I wanted things to start and where they should be by the end, and from there I shrugged, started writing and was usually pretty happy with what I ended up with. Other times I got frustrated with how things turned out and had to completely rewrite the chapter. Multiple times. (Here's looking at you, Suburbs. You are the bane of my existence and I'm glad we decided to not keep you in the story.)

Oh, another one:
We had way too many worlds in the previous story. And for the most part Alex and Aya went to different worlds than the other. There wasn't much overlap, and between the two stories there were probably a little under 60 worlds. This time around? Nope. In fact, for those interested, let's have a breakdown of the worlds that are in each story, in no particular order.

12 based-on-another-media Worlds, plus 11 worlds original to Kingdom Hearts.
Each story (Aya and Alex's) has on my trusty handy list a total of about 20 worlds, giving me enough time for getting everything I need done to happen. 20 worlds a piece, with 4 overlapping worlds where they're in the same place together doing the same stuff.

Oh, that's another thing. When this does get uploaded to FF.Net I'm not making it 2 separate stories. One big story that jumps between the two. If you really wanted you COULD skip all the Aya chapters or all the Alex chapters and just get one half of the story, but they'll be uploaded back to back in the same place.

Example: The Aya's first three worlds are Earth, Destiny Island, Twilight Town. Alex's first three are Earth, Radiant Garden, Castle Oblivion. So, I'd upload them: Earth (Aya/Alex Together), Destiny Island (Aya), Radiant Garden (Alex), Twilight Town (Aya), Castle Oblivion (Alex). Probably with some kind of little "Previously on Alex's side..." blip incase anyone goes "durr, wut was going on before this with Alex? I can't remember."

Also, another thing that I want to point out in how much I'm loving this is the fact that I'm doing this for my own enjoyment.

Second Story. Make sure to put Shibuya in it.
